Emergency contacts for pupils

Following recommendations from a Serious Case Review, from September 2018 schools should hold more than one emergency contact number for each pupil or student, ‘where reasonably possible’. The full text of the Serious Case Review is essential reading to understand the importance of this change and the role schools can play in keeping children safe when they miss school. More details, and information about the current requirement on schools to have in place appropriate safeguarding responses to children who go missing from education, can be found in the latest draft of Keeping Children Safe in Education (paragraph 57).
