Regulating Independent Educational Institutions
The Department for Education (DfE) as regulator of schools is consulting on changes to the registration and enforcement regime. Proposals include:
- To define ‘full-time’ education for the purpose of registration as an independent school as attendance of at least 18 hours during the course of a week ( being seven days, not just Monday – Friday)
- Making it a material change to organise an institution to cater specifically for pupils with SEN of one or more defined categories. It would also be a material change to add or remove categories of SEN from the school’s registration.
- The DfE would be able to impose a restriction if an unapproved material change is made.
The consultation closes on 8 May 2020.
