Mental health in schools

The DfE has set out ground-breaking proposals in a Green Paper which will see each state funded school having a trained designated senior lead for mental health and the development of a new, 8000 strong, workforce of Mental Health Support Teams. Under the proposals, which are to be rolled out over a number of years, the teams will be supervised by NHS children and young people’s mental health staff.

The proposals are not intended to apply to the independent sector, but will be of interest to independent schools which have encountered difficulties accessing help for a young person and/or wish to follow or match developments in the public sector.
