IICSA interim report

ISI welcomes the detailed and thorough investigation report published today by the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse which has highlighted the evidence of appalling sexual abuse inflicted over a number of decades on children at Ampleforth College and Downside School.

Safeguarding children is key to the ISI inspection framework and listening to the ‘voice of the child’ is the cornerstone of all our work. Today’s report will strengthen our continual process of reflection and improvement.

We look forward to continuing to support the work of the Inquiry and welcome the forthcoming scrutiny of the role of inspection expected in the second part of the investigation. The validity of inspection judgements rests on schools and all relevant agencies sharing sufficient, timely and accurate information with inspectorates; this is an area which will warrant further consideration.

ISI continues to work pro-actively together with Government and other authorities to ensure that the safety of children remains a priority in all educational settings.

Children, parents, practitioners or indeed anyone with safeguarding concerns about an independent school are encouraged to contact ISI by email to concerns@isi.net or telephone 020 7600 0100.
