Appointment of four new Directors

Appointment of four new Directors

Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) is delighted to announce the following four new Directors have been appointed to its Board:

Freya Guinness

Phil Beach, CBE

Dr Carolyn Brown

Simon Camby

Together they bring a wealth of relevant experience to ISI at a pivotal time in its development, as we seek to increase our impact and contribution to the schools we inspect and the future of education in the UK and internationally. The new Directors will each serve for an initial term of three years and they join existing Directors, Paul Cook, Mark Stephens CBE, Jamie Drummond-Smith and Fraser Burrill. Brief biographies of all directors and the Chair can be found on the ISI website.

The appointment of these new Directors is the culmination of a wide-ranging review of governance, carried out over a twelve month period, resulting in the establishment of a fully independent skills- based Board. The Directors were appointed through a process of open competition, supported by an external recruitment consultant. Details of the appointment brief, including the role description and person specification can be found here. These roles are unremunerated.

ISI would like to take this opportunity to thank all the Directors and Members who have stood down as part of this transition to a new governance structure. They have each played a valuable part in supporting ISI over many years, not least in helping shape and determine how ISI will operate in the future. We are grateful to all of them for the significant contributions they have made to ISI.

As part of the governance review, the Board of ISI has also agreed to set up a new Education Advisory Forum, to provide a range of expertise to the Chief Inspector and the Board on education and inspection matters. We plan to conclude the appointment process for the EAF by the end of the month.
