Covid-19 update

We are very mindful of the impact of Covid-19 on schools at present, and we are in close discussion with the Department for Education.

Schools remain open for face-to-face education and routine inspections are continuing.

However, in light of the current situation, if your school is notified of an inspection in the coming weeks, the reporting inspector (RI) will discuss with you in the notification call the current context for your school.

Schools that are significantly impacted by Covid-related staff absence may request that their inspection be deferred. Any request for deferral is referred to the Department for Education and decisions are made by the Department for Education on a case-by-case basis.

The RI will also discuss as part of the notification call any necessary safety measures for the inspection and consider any adaptations that need to be made.

ISI will shortly be contacting inspectors who currently work in schools and who have been allocated to imminent inspections, to confirm their availability for deployment.

All other inspection-related Covid-19 adaptations remain in place for this term. Full details can be found in our Guidance for inspectors on conducting inspections during Covid-19.

These will be reviewed at Easter 2022 and communicated to schools in time for the start of the summer term.

Should you have any particular inspection-related questions, please email
