Q What scrutiny will take place around a school's recruitment checks on inspection?
A

One of the sources of evidence which will be looked at to reach an evaluation on safeguarding is a school’s single central register.

The single central register will be scrutinised to check the effectiveness of the system to ensure safer recruitment checks are completed for adults, including staff, volunteers and the proprietors.

Inspectors will review the single central register onsite and sample checks, focusing particularly on adults who have been recruited since the previous inspection.

The chart on page 47 of the inspection handbook explains the information required for an effective and single central register that meets the requirements.

All checks marked ‘yes’ must be completed. All checks marked ‘yes’ in bold must completed and recorded on the single central register.
