Q I’ve heard that the new framework is solely focused on the wellbeing of children. Will inspectors still be interested in assessment, progress and achievement?
A

The meaning of 'wellbeing' for the purposes of the Standards, and ISI's values, is defined by section 10(2) of the Children Act 2004 as relating to:

  • Pupils' physical and mental health and emotional wellbeing
  • Protection of pupils from harm and neglect
  • Pupils' education, training and recreation
  • Pupils' contribution to society
  • Pupils' social and economic wellbeing.

These points are encapsulated in the inspection framework.

Please refer to section two (Pupils' education, training and recreation), together with section one (Leadership and management and governance) in the framework to read more about how assessment, progress and achievement are evaluated on inspection.
