Q How did ISI develop the inspection framework?

ISI undertook a comprehensive consultation and piloting process to develop this framework.

Our overall approach:

  • Builds on the strengths of ISI’s current framework.
  • Incorporates learnings from a series of internal thematic reviews.
  • Incorporates recommendations from published external reviews.
  • Gives careful consideration to feedback from our four-month consultation.
  • Incorporates learnings from pilot visits and discussions with senior leaders, staff and pupils.
ISI is formally approved by the Secretary of State for Education to inspect association independent schools in England. This approval is outlined in section 87A of the Children Act 1989 and section 106 of the Education and Skills Act 2008.
