1. The proprietor (to include those with governance responsibility) must ensure that those with leadership and management responsibilities at the school ('leadership'):
    • have good and appropriate skills and knowledge14, and
    • fulfil their responsibilities effectively and consistently.
    so that the requirements of relevant standards and statutory guidance are met consistently.
  2. Leadership must ensure that the school's aims and ethos (including any religious ethos and/or boarding principles) are available in writing to parents and staff, and are known to pupils, and are seen to work well in practice.
  3. Leadership should ensure effective self-evaluation15 at the school of the effectiveness in leadership's delivery of the school's ethos and aims, so that pupils' wellbeing is actively promoted, and the requirements of the standards are met. Leadership must ensure that effective action is taken where necessary.
  4. Leadership must ensure effective and consistent implementation of all policies and documents required by standards applicable to the school, and that policies comply with relevant legislation, have regard to applicable guidance, and are understood by staff and pupils.
  5. Leadership must ensure that appropriate information is made available and provided in accordance with all relevant legislation, regulations and applicable guidance.
  6. Leadership must establish effective links with other agencies to promote and benefit the wellbeing of pupils (including boarders) as required in statutory guidance and recommended in advice issued by the DfE which is applicable to the school.
