Announcement

Appointment of new Chair

The Board of Directors of the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) is delighted to announce that its Members have approved the appointment of Christine Swabey as its next Chair of Directors. Christine has become a non-executive Director with immediate effect and she will take over the non-executive chairmanship of both ISI and its subsidiary ISI Consultancy Limited on 1st July 2017 on the retirement of Peter Williamson who will have held the post for 5 years.

Peter Williamson said “I am delighted that the comprehensive recruitment exercise conducted by ISI’s Nominations Committee has resulted in the appointment of such an outstanding candidate as Christine Swabey. She has considerable relevant experience and I am confident that she is the right person to chair the Board in the coming years. I am very much looking forward to working with her in the next two months or so and I wish her all success in the post”.

Christine Swabey said “I am delighted to be taking on the role of Chair of Directors of the Independent Schools Inspectorate. ISI is committed to a constructive inspection process, focussed on playing its part in ensuring that all children attending the independent schools it inspects, both in the UK and internationally, receive an outstanding education, fulfilling their potential and equipping them to contribute to wider society.

I am looking forward to working closely with the Board, with the new Chief Executive and Chief Inspector once their appointments have been completed and with the rest of the team, to ensure ISI is valued equally by parents, schools and government, and plays a full part in the debate about the evolving role of independent education in the UK.”
