Integrated Inspections for ISC Schools

20 Apr 2011
Following intensive negotiations, ISI has been given approval for the transfer of boarding welfare inspections from Ofsted to ISI as from 1st September 2011.

This long awaited decision will allow ISC schools to benefit from fully integrated education and welfare inspections. Subject to parliamentary time being available to make the necessary changes, the transfer will be operational from September 2011. Discussions with Ofsted will begin this autumn to ensure a smooth handover.

Commenting on the decision, Christine Ryan said "We are delighted that ISC schools will have integrated inspections from next September. Separate inspections of education and welfare have caused disruption and confusion for schools - in some cases with inspections only a few weeks apart. Removing the duplication will make inspections more effective."

ISI continues to urge government to reduce the complexity and remove duplication of regulation, as recommended by Sir Roger Singleton in his report "Keeping our school safe". Further information on inspections and training will be provided in our regular Updates for schools and inspectors.
